God's Will

Many people ask the question, "What is God's will for my life?" and struggle to find it. Today, we are going to answer some of these questions by looking at what Scripture says.

First, let's look at the definition of God's will:

It is the desires, perspective, or predetermined plan of God.

Now, how can we find God's will?

• Scripture. All of God's Word contains God's will. It may not say "my will for you is to go work at Chick-fil-A instead of In-N-Out," but it does tell us how God wants us to live and what actions leads to a life that brings Him glory.
• Prayer. We can seek God's will and ask questions through praying about it. Praying that God would lead us, and give us wisdom in choosing what paths to take.

What is God's will for our lives as Christians?

1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 says,

"For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor,"

God wants us to be set apart from sexual impurity. To use our bodies to glorify Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says,

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

God wants us to rejoice, pray always, and give thanks no matter what season of life we are in. Thanklessness is a trait of an unbeliever.

Romans 12:1-2 says,

"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

For believers, the only acceptable worship is to offer ourselves completely to the Lord. We owe God our highest form of service. We should not be like the world, but be in God's Word, our minds being renewed by it. And then Scripture will reveal to you God's will.

1 Peter 2:13-15 says,

"Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people."

We are to live in obedience to every institution of civil and social order on Earth, including obedience to the national government, the state government, the police, and judges. Only when the government tries to force believers to do what is against the law of God explicitly stated in Scripture, should they refuse to submit.

Hebrews 10:36 says,

"For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised."

We should trust Christ fully by living daily in the will of the Father.

To close todays devotional, the will of God is for us to bring Him glory, honor and praise. We discover how we bring God glory by reading His Word, which reveals to us the character of God and how we are to live obedient lives for Him. We should not be led by our own emotions and desires, but pray that Christ would lead us in in all truth and righteousness. Praise God that we don't have to overcomplicate it! We have only to follow Him and love Him "with all our heart, with all our soul and all our mind!" (Matthew 22:37)
