Have you ever been anxious? Wondering what if ____? Or just scared of your future? Well, I know I have. It hurts, it cripples you. But there's good news! Jesus can help you overcome that. How can we be at peace? First, let's take a look at what Jesus says.
Matthew 6:25-34 says,
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
We don't have to be anxious because Jesus is taking care of us. He is providing for us. Everyday, even if we don't see it, He is protecting, providing, and caring for us. The future, present, and past is in His hands. We should focus on trusting God today, and not worry about tomorrow.
1 Peter 5:7 says,
"casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."
When we feel anxious, we can cast all of it on Him. He can carry that burden. You don't have to carry it. We can let go of our hold on it and rest in Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says,
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding."
Instead of us trusting our own understanding and leaning on that, we should trust God, and lean on what the Bible says. Our understanding is false and it's not the Bible. Jesus knows your future, and He has it all planned out for you.
Philippians 4:6-7 says,
"do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Instead of worrying, we can pray to God and ask Him to give us peace. He will give you rest. When you're anxious, run to Him. Run to His Word. Cling to Jesus. He is the only one that can give you peace.
To close this devotional, instead of focusing on the things that are bothering you, we turn to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Scrolling on your phone, shopping, or anything materialistic in this world will not fix your anxiety. Only Jesus can. He can heal it and replace it with such a great peace that not one person can explain. The solution to anxiety in this world is temporary, but Jesus' solution goes into eternity. Praise the Lord!
